I am an English-Spanish artist my work is based on themes of war, power and politics and I consider myself a multidisciplinary conceptual artist working experimenting and mixing different mediums together. Often my work features strong expressive mark making and complex visual surface textures and is of a large-scale format lending itself to installation work. 

¡BE UGLY!

I am not interested in creating perfect work that looks pretty and fits neatly packaged into society – another nice image to drift pass without having to engage with it. I am searching to express complex and messy ideas which are often ugly in their nature and I want my work to reflect this. I want my work to cause a feeling of uncertainty, to be something left open ended, something that someone has to interact with to untangle. I want people to feel it, to observe the surfaces and textures, to perceive the work – able to question for themselves the concepts and open a dialogue of debate.

I have always been interested in the use of words and how language is manipulated to craft narratives and justifications for the agendas and decisions of some people. Today, this manipulation increasingly plays out in the realm of imagery; even something as simple as a photograph can be converted into a weapon. I construct spaces using expressive images, words, and textures creating an environment for reflection and contemplation. Images and text are found through research and investigation from a variety of sources and through artistic manipulation aim to challenge their original meaning.

I want my messages to be clear, without forcing you to agree with me or believe what I present; I simply want you to consider what you see. It is an alternative perspective to what we hear and see every day with the intention to challenge common narratives. By deciphering these things, we can view the world and critically engage with what we are told and hopefully see the world in shades of grey rather than just black and white.
